John entered the Air Force in June 1966, attended basic training at Lackland AFB, TX in Jun-Jul 1966, then attended Inventory Management training (Supply) at Amarillo AFB TX Jul-Aug 1966. His first assignment was at Travis AFB CA from Sep 1966 to Apr 1969 as a parts expeditor. In Apr 1969 he cross trained to become a loadmaster, at that time he attended loadmaster school at Sheppard AFB from Apr to Jun 1969.When he returned to Travis he was assigned to the 89 MAS flying C-141's for 3 months before receiving orders to Vietnam. Spent Jul-Aug 1969 at Hurlbert Field, FL training on the C-123. Then assigned to the 309 TAS from Aug 1969 Aug 1970. Sep 1970 he was assigned to the 41st MAS (flying C-141's) at Charleston AFB, SC
 
In Oct 1977 he was assigned to the 437th Aerial Delivery Support Branch where he stayed as a Joint Airdrop Inspector and Section Supervisor until Jan 1986 when he was assigned to the 20 MAS (flying C141's). In Sep 1987 he was transferred to the Wing Training Section as NCOIC until he left in Jul 1988 at which time He assumed the duties as the Chief of the Aerial Delivery Support Branch. He stayed there until he received orders in May 1990 for Pope AFB, NC. Before reporting to Pope he attended C-130 Loadmaster training at Little Rock AFB, AR. When he arrived at Pope he was assigned to ALCE (Airlift Control Element) where he stayed until his retirement on 9 Jun 1992.
 
Currently he is working as Chief of the maintenance department at Summerville Elementary School. Looking to retire again  in the near future.
 
He and his wife Barbara have lived in Summerville since 1970, Except for his Assignment to Pope AFB when he became a weekend commuter.
