Treasurer – Lou Cook         mailto:fec141@Charter.net

Joined the Air Force in 1966 and in June shipped off to San Antonio, Lackland AFB, TX.  Completed basic in 4 weeks because of the Viet Nam conflict and was sent to Amarillo AFB, TX in July.  Amarillo was one of 2 bases that trained jet engine mechanics.

In October of 1966, completed basic technical training and was reassigned to Seymour Johnson AFB, NC.  While at Seymour, worked on F-105, T33, and F-4 aircraft.  Initially assigned to the 4th Field Maintenance Squadron but was later reassigned to the 334 Tactical Fighter Squadron.

In October 1967, received orders for sunny South East Asia.  Lou’s orders were for the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing  located in Ubon AB, Thailand.  While at Ubon worked mainly F/RF 4 aircraft. During this tour Lou was reassigned to the 432nd TFW at Udorn AB because  the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron relocated to this area.

October 1968 was time for rotation from SEA and Lou was destined for the 81 Tactical Fighter Wing at RAF, Bentwaters, England.  In England he was assigned to the Field Maintenance Squadron and continued his career as a jet engine technician.  Unfortunately, in 1973, Lou had to return to the United States.

In early 1973, Lou arrived at Ellsworth AFB, SD.  This was not the exact assignment that he had envisioned and was his first experience with the Strategic Air Command.  After several extremely cold days working flight line maintenance, he decide to retrain.  In May of 1973, Lou was reassigned to the 77th Bombardment Squadron as a gunner.  After many tours on the "alert pad" and 18-20 hour missions, it was time for another change.  He applied for flight engineer on the 141 and was eventually accepted.

In November, 1976 Lou arrived at Charleston AFB and was assigned to the 41st MAS.  He progressed thru the normal sequence of events from unqualified engineer to Instructor.  He Became a scheduler after several years and maintained instructor status.  Later he got involved with SOLL I/II.  Lou retired in June 1986 after 20 years and during his stay at Charleston managed to complete a Bachelor of science and Master of Arts degree prior to retirement.
