Subject: 41 MAS Squadron of the Year Award Package
MISSION
-- Provides air refueling, combat-ready C-141 aircrews for worldwide strategic airlift and tactical airdrop missions. Maintains a JCS alert force for global contingencies and a special operations force for unconventional warfare operations. Performs emergency nuclear airlift and humanitarian relief missions.
IG REPORTS
-- The 41 M AS received an overall satisfactory on the 8-15 Mar 89, U EI contributing to the wing receiving an excellent on the 0 RI.
ASET RESULTS
-- The 41 M AS had zero Q-3 evaluations during ASST, contributing to the overall "High Excellent" ASET evaluation for the 437 MAW.
- Three 41 M AS pilots received overall "Excellent" evaluations and three 41 M AS engineers received "Outstanding" evaluations during the MAC ASET visit.
AIRCREW UPGRADING/TRAINING
- Approximately 103 pilot, 12 navigator, 15 engineer, and 10 loadmaster upgrades have been accomplished 'during the year. Every upgrade qualification for each crew position is reflected in these numbers.
-- The 41 MAS has instituted a monthly Aircrew Enhancement Training Seminar to increase the crossflow of valuable training information.
-- The 41 M AS/D OV publishes a monthly newsletter which emphasizes particular systems and procedures. '
-- The squadron provides an augmentee to the wing learning center instructor staff.
SAFETY RECORD

-- As of November, the 41 M AS had flown 121,547.2 accident-free hours.

-- The 41 MAS crewmembers have qualified for one 10,000 hour, two 7,500 hour and six 5,000 hour accident-free patches.

-- The majority of the squadron has completed the Supervisor Safety Training program.

AIRCREW ENHANCEMENT/ RETENTION

-- Promotions

-- Seven promoted to 1st Lt, 8 promoted to Capt, 1 promoted to Maj, and 1 promoted to Lt Col.

-- Seven promoted to AIC, 6 promoted to SrA, 1 promoted to Sgt, 5 promoted to SSgt, 4 promoted to TSgt, 2 promoted to MSgt, and 1 to CMSgt.

-- Retention

-- The 41 M AS has had 15 reenlistments so far in 1990.

...o 41 MAS maintain active dialogue with all of the officer and enlisted, discussing career opportunities and progression.
-- The flight engineer section had 100 percent retention for 1990.
-- Had 38 percent of our first time eligible pilots accept the bonus in 1990; well above the MAC C-141. pilot average.
-- Established a telephone tape in the squadron to keep spouses informed on squadron events and whereabouts of crews; enhancing morale and taking better care of our families.

OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL CREW ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The 41 MAS played a critical role in the 437 MAW's two Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards received in 1990.

Captain Hetzel's crew received Air Medals and the "Turner" award for their expert handling of a critical in-flight emergency.

TSgt Rogers won the Gen Robert "Dutch" Huyser Award as the Most Outstanding Loadmaster in MAC.

Capt Hetzel was the 21 AF nominee for the Gen Robert "Dutch" Huyser Award as the Most Outstanding Pilot in MAC.

SrA Stephen Jenkins won the 437 MAW Information Manager of the Quarter.

The 41st planned and flew the JUST CAUSE redeployment airdrop mission which received national media attention. Lt Col Digangi led the second section and Capt Jeff Deiters was in the number three aircraft in the second section.

Lt Col Scott was the 437 MAW MAC Airlift Rodeo Team commander.
SSgt Alcoy was selected as the primary loadmaster and SSgt Watt was selected as a primary flight engineer for the 437 MAW's V 0 L A N T RODEO aircrew.

The 41 MAS participated in two RED FLAG exercises, providing the Commander and D 0 for one exercise.

Received laudatory comments from 21 AF/CV for a "super job" during a multiship, multi-air refueling airdrop in support of Exercise IRON COBRA '90.

The 41 M AS flew Bob Hope's East Germany tour.

Capt McLawhorn'and crew flew Bob Hope's USO troop to the U.S.S.R.-receiving numerous accolades for Bob Hope's first and only trip ever to the U.S.S.R.

To date, the 41 MAS has supported 281 TDY days augmenting various commands and control agencies in support of Operation DESERT SHIELD.

Lt Col Huggins was the Combined Federal Campaign Project Officer for Charleston Air Force Base, collecting the most funds ever for this campaign and receiving personal well done from the 437 MAW/CC.

Lt Col Huggins was the 1990 CAFB Open House Assistant Chairman in charge of the USAF Thunderbird Airshow.

Capt Arthur and crew safely recovered an aircraft after losing all attitude instrument 
identification, while in the weather.  

Capt Cafarella's crew airlifted deposed Haitian President Prosper Avrll and his family from Haiti to Homestead Air Force Base, Florida.

MILITARY/CIVILIAN EDUCATION

Capt Cox was a Distinguished Graduate from Squadron Officer School. .
SrA Cleve won the Levitow Award as the NCO Prep Course class. honor graduate.
SSgt Shaw was a Distinguished Graduate from the NCOL School.
SSgt Simpson completed the Career Development Course with an outstanding score of 98 percent.
The following represents P M E completion for 41 M AS squadron members: 6 SOS, 10 NCO Leadership School, 6 NCO Academy, 4 NCO Orientation, and 1 SN C O Academy.
TSgt Elliott received his bachelor degree and SMSgt Risden, SMSgt Hatley, TSgt Richards, and MSgt Lightfoot were awarded their associates degree.
Percentage of enlisted personnel in the Community College of the Air Force is 93 percent, with 116 enrolled and 9 degrees received.

BASE/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

During the 1990 Cpmbined Federal Campaign, the 41 MAS contributed the highest percentage and highest per capita of any of the flying squadrons (;9,58? - 130 percent of the goal).
Attained 101 percent of the Air Force Assistance Fund (AFAF) goal for 1990.
Participated in the McNair Elementary and Berkeley Middle Schools' career days.
Presented briefing to Drayton Hall Middle School students.
Capts Jaicks and Daniels presented a briefing on Operation JUST CAUSE to students at the Citadei.
Eight volunteers from the 41 M AS renovated two rooms and landscaped grounds at the Florence Crittendon Home (44 manhours).
The squadron conducted 12. aircraft tours for various civic groups.
Capt Dieters rescued a drowning heart attack victim and administered CPR until the paramedics arrived.

ENERGY CONSERVATION ,.

Beginning with fuel and flight planning, through mission completion, the 41 MAS aggressively pursues a program of efficient fuel management.
Checks of post-mission forms are accomplished to ensure adherence to squadron fuel conservation policies.
The 41 MAS continually strezses compliance, at all squadron levels, with base energy conservation policies.
